Had a great night at Truffle Shuffle last Monday with none other than special guest DJ Count Skylarkin, who joined us at Bacchus fresh from doing a music review at BBC Radio Live earlier that day. The Count brought down a fine selection of rhythm & blues and even touched upon some ska, and whipped the crowd up into a dancing frenzy with classic tracks such as It’s Your Voodoo Working by Charles Sheffield as well as his own production, a bootleg of Son of a Preacher Man titled ‘Dub of a Preacher Man’ which will be coming out very shortly. He also regularly plays festivals such as The Big Chill, Beachdown & Truck Festival in what is know as The Disco Shed, also puts on superb nights at The Big Chill House in London &  at The Cellar in Oxford, so be sure to check out the links below :)

Really great night and was a real pleasure to have him down, big up to the Count!!!

Bit’s of the night was recorded onto Mini Disc of which I have Dr Blood & myself’s (which I’ve stuck up in the Podcast Bar at the top of this site!) and here’s the first half of Dr Blood’s set, great selection of tunes starting off with a corker from The Champs.

Brilliant night and thanks to the boys, especially ‘the Blood’ for popping in on his way back from Sweden – nice! :)

This moment just was too good to keep to myself, so here’s my hangover cure:

  4. 4. Take a good look at the photos, and now I want you to imagine gently swinging backwards and forwards in that hammock, a waiter bringing you your favourite tipple, a cool breeze brushing against your face, just enough to cool you down from the heat…
  5. 5. Close your eye’s imagine, remember how great life can be, and just relax…

This and other photo’s from outer space have been snapped by Nasa’s Hubble Telescope. When you think this is not just computer generated art, but the real thing, it kinda dawns on you how mad the universe really is! and how cool would that look hanging up in your living room.

Very interesting article on the so called ‘green shoots’ that measure economic growth, for example:

“The crane index. How many cranes are visible from a given point. Really a measure of optimism about the prospects for commercial property.”

I kinda believe in this stuff although you gotta tread carefully when making your own green shoots analogy or ‘index’ as it’s know – sun cream sales going up doesn’t necessarily mean consumers have more money to spend, it just means the sun is out!
